Scribble & Daub Lily of the Valley Card | Language of Flowers
A little flower with a rather lovely message.
Delicate, meaningful and beautifully made, the Scribble & Daub Lily of the Valley Card is part of the enchanting Language of Flowers Collection, celebrating not only the beauty of flowers but the sentiments they have traditionally been used to express.
The front features a graceful Lily of the Valley illustration, created from an original dip pen and ink drawing before being traditionally letterpress printed and individually hand-painted with richly pigmented colour.
Turn the card over and you'll discover the meaning behind the flower. In the traditional language of flowers, Lily of the Valley symbolises sweetness, humility and happiness — making this a particularly thoughtful card for someone very special.
Each design begins in the hands of Scribble & Daub founder Caroline Kent, whose wonderfully loose, characterful drawings are transformed through traditional letterpress printing before returning to the studio in East Sussex to be painted individually by hand.
The vibrant inks take inspiration from Andy Warhol's joyful use of colour, meaning subtle variations occur from card to card. Every one is just a little different.
Printed on luxurious Italian deckle-edged paper, the softly irregular edges and tactile surface give the card the feeling of a miniature piece of botanical artwork — and make it far too lovely to throw away once the flowers on the mantelpiece have faded.
The inside is blank for your own message, allowing the symbolism of Lily of the Valley to work beautifully for birthdays, thank yous, celebrations, friendship or simply sending someone a little happiness.
And naturally, we think it's particularly lovely accompanying a bouquet of flowers.
A card that says something before you've even written a word.
