O & M - Bringing the Almafi Coast to the Surrey Hills
“Not only did everything look beautiful on the day but it also smelt incredible. Mad Lilies really did bring the Amalfi Coast to a wet and windy Surrey day whilst single handedly clearing out the whole of Tesco of fresh lemons!!” Olivia and Mitch
We absolutely loved bringing a touch of Italy to Surrey for Olivia and Mitch’s wedding. They celebrated at the stunning Botley Hill Barn, which even on a rainy day is the most incredible venue.
Olivia and Mitch exchanged their vows in The Oakly Barn, which with its rustic charm leant itself perfectly to the Italian garden feel we were going for. We lined aisle with lanterns and lemons and designed pew ends with trailing English Jasmine, Italian Ruscus and scented Lavender. We dressed the fireplace with foliage and a peppering of flowers and fresh Lavender, finishing off with candlelight and clusters of lemons.
Olivia said: “We knew we wanted an Italian theme of lots of greenery, whites, lemons and Lavender but we didn't know exactly what flowers or foliage would be best so we left it up to Mad Lilies to decide for us. We were instantly drawn to Ali’s friendly and enthusiastic nature. We could just tell she was a creative individual and felt we could really trust her to bring our ideas to life.”
Alison explained: “For Olivia’s bouquet we used pretty white and lilac flowers including Agapanthus, Astilbe, Clematis, Lysimachia, Phlox, Spray Roses, Sweet Peas, along with gorgeous scented Purple Basil, Rosemary, Geranium, Olive and Italian Ruscus to create a relaxed design with plenty of movement and a natural feel.”
We absolutely adore working with the space, light and the expanse of the main barn at Botley Hill Barn. For Olivia and Mitch’s wedding reception, we created a style of flowers that had an organic and earthy feel, as if plucked from an Italian garden. We used Italian Ruscus, Rosemary and Olive with touches of Lavender to create a relaxed runner down the entire lengths of the inviting long handmade oak dining tables.
We loved how Olivia and Mitch opted for a top table for just the two of them, where they could gather their thoughts of the day, share a special moment with one another and enjoy seeing all their loved ones together… at last. Their table had a suspended foliage design, which acted as a romantic canopy above the table, which was then finished with lush Italian Ruscus, Lemons and elegant Ester & Erik taper candles.
We asked Olivia if she could share her best piece of wedding advice for future brides, she said: “Try to enjoy the planning process. At times it can be stressful so make sure you go with your gut when choosing suppliers and trust their expertise. I trusted Ali to create something beautiful so it was a weight of our minds and heightened the surprise of seeing the room dressed and my bouquet for the first time.”
