Mad Lilies does SPRING

OUR FAVOURITE SPRING FLOWERS
As we look out of our window at the grey sky, bare trees desperately trying to stay standing against these gale force winds we’ve been treated to of late and the horrible mizzle tacking itself to our windows, we wonder if winter is ever going to end. But then we spy the blossom of the trees, a few tufts of bright yellow daffodils standing strong against the elements, with their golden rays of happiness certain to spread a warm smile across your face, and we instantly feel buoyed. We can be certain that finally, thankfully, spring is a-coming!
I mean what’s not to adore about Springtime? Just like the moment that Dorothy lands in Oz, our world is catapulted into technicolour with the trees spouting their fresh buds ready to burst open into the most gorgeous blossoms, the grass looks greener, the clouds disperse giving us our first feel of the warm rays on our backs and our senses awaken from a rush of zesty colour from our much loved spring bulbs popping up in our gardens and verges. So with Mother’s Day and Easter just around the corner there’s never been a better time to fill your home with flowers and treat your loved ones to a splash of colour.
THE BEST OF SPRING
Is there anything that says ‘spring’ more than these little fellas? Our favourites and what we tend to stock are the Parrot Tulip with their irregular shaped petals that resemble feathers of a tropical parrot and the Double Tulip with its giant peony shaped head and many blousy petals. We love that they come in every colour imaginable from feminine mauves, pinks and creams to vivid yellows, oranges and reds, there really is a Tulip for everyone to love. Right now we are totally in love with our ‘Hattie Bouquet’ which shows that it doesn’t have to be complicated to still give you that WOW factor. Apparently we aren’t the only ones as this bouquet is proving super popular with our customers.
These little flowers pack a sensational sensory punch so we couldn’t NOT include them in our list. If you’re looking for a gorgeous scent, look no further. These flowers prove size doesn’t matter as they really pack a punch when displayed in a pretty vase on a windowsill. They give a gorgeous addition of texture when incorporated into a design with other spring flowers such as Tulips, Hyacinths and Anemones (some of our other most loved spring blooms!). Cheap to buy, too, these are the perfect go-to flowers in spring to keep the flowers going in your home.
Boy oh boy do we go nuts for these beauties in our store. These round headed blooms have layers upon layers of the most delicate paper-thin petals that make them look so perfect it’s hard to believe they’re real. In fact, we get asked that by our customers A LOT! They have an almost ‘Rose-like’ quality to them, albeit on a smaller scale, which makes them perfect in our spring wedding designs for our lovely couples. They come in an array of remarkable colours, too, from the softest blush pinks to a jaw droppingly gorgeous plum tone; there’s a colour for everyone. Understandably one of our most popular spring flowers amongst our customers.
If there was an award for the most gorgeous variety of Viburnum, then Guelder Rose would win hands down. Blooms such as these are a florist’s dream as they sit on the cross over between flower and foliage. Multiple round, frothy heads per stem (think of a cluster of mini Hydrangeas!) give movement and texture to our designs. Then their minty, soft lime green colouring adds the most perfect balance of colour to make your flowers ‘pop’, which is why foliage is such a key element in floral designs! Using a few stems of Guelder Rose in a spring bouquet instantly brings the entire thing to life and gives you that all important sunny feeling we love our Spring flowers for!
Not the colour, even though Lilac does, indeed, come in lilac! But the flower; Syringa to be exact. Similar to Guelder Rose, these are tall woody stems with an incredible frothy bloom in white, blush, lilac and mauve varieties. Think of a mini Wisteria, or bunch of grapes. A bouncy, free-form cluster makes everything look that bit more luxurious. It is one of the most popular stems to use in Spring weddings, like our friend the Ranunculus, and one of its best attributes is it’s long stem and larger bloom, which is sometimes much needed when most Spring flowers tend to be on the dainty side. One of the most stunningly simple designs to have in your home is a tall vase filled to bursting with Lilac stems, Guelder Rose and some Pussy Willow for good measure. Come in store and order up your stems and we promise you will love it so much you’ll shed a little tear when they go out of season come the summer.
Make Mother’s Day Marvellous!
On the last weekend in March, we will be making a special fuss of the main women in our lives, and in our experience Mums love their flowers! Every year we get amazing feedback following Mother’s Day weekend from many of the lovely mums telling us how much their gorgeously presented hand-tied bouquet of spring flowers made them smile from ear to ear and got their day off to a great start!
So this year we’ve worked harder than ever to put together the most amazing range of ‘Mother’s Day’ flowers & gifts. We truly have something for everyone, from our luxe bouquets in our signature presentation boxes, to smaller and dainty tied bunches of spring blooms and a full range of flowers in vases and potted plants. So pop into the shop to view the whole collection, or browse our Mother’s Day Range and Mother’s Day Gifts online and we’ll have them ready for delivery or collection on Saturday 30th March and Sunday 31st March (Which is Mother’s Day, in case you’d forgotten…)
And not forgetting our fabulous new venture, Mad Lilies At Home which will have its very own website www.madliliesathome.co.uk very shortly where you will be able to buy on line. But for the meantime you can pop into our brick and motor store in Banstead High Street and check out for yourself our inspired collection of artisan gifts and homeware including botanical beauty products, scented candles, inspirational books, cards, wrapping paper and the most gorgeous Grosgrain ribbons.
Another event spring brings with it is Easter. A day of family get togethers, usually culminating in a big Sunday lunch. Make sure you order one of our gorgeous seasonal designs to take to your host as a thank you for feeding you so well you won’t be able to move for the next 5 hours!
If you’re hosting an Easter feast this year, don’t forget to include some spring flowers for your table design to set the whole thing off! Flowers on the table is something we’re super passionate about, too and our Mad Lilies Table Styling Workshops are absolutely perfect to teach you how to wow your guests with a beautiful set up. Keep an eye out to book your place on our next set of workshops. Fancy a taster of what you can expect at a table styling workshop? There’s a sneak peek over on Instagram of our latest one, held at the fabulous Louisa Grace Interiors.
As this time of year gives us a new found ‘spring’ in our step (!), we all become desperate to bring the outside inside. After all, it’s been clinically proven that flowers make you happy. So we at Mad Lilies advocate, therefore, that any day is a good day to buy flowers – who needs a reason?! So if you’ve been inspired by any of the blooms we’ve highlighted in today’s blog, we always have an abundance of seasonal stems ready for you to grab from our Banstead store or let us come to you and order online for delivery here.
