Our brand new "At Home" website launches on 17th April www.madliliesathome.co.uk.

behind the scenes

So what does a wedding with Mad Lilies look like? We’re often asked about our processes for weddings and events, and while each one is unique in terms of style, location (and, often, unpredictable weather conditions), we approach each wedding day in much the same way. Here’s a peek behind the scenes to show you how a Mad Lilies Wedding comes together…

The Initial Stages

In the preceding months, we’ll have worked closely with our engaged couple to put together an in-depth brief. This will detail the areas to be flowered, the overall style of the wedding and what we’re looking to achieve, plus the colour palettes and specific varietals that will be involved in our installations for the day.

Then it’s time to place our pre-order at the flower market. We often do this weeks in advance of the wedding date, to make sure we snap up the freshest and highest quality selection available from our trusted suppliers.

The Flowers Arrive

We love receiving flower deliveries for our weddings – there’s always something a little like Christmas morning seeing what we have to work with! Once the blooms arrive into the workroom at Mad Lilies they all have to be conditioned. We take good care of each individual stem: removing excess leaves, trimming stalks, feeding and watering each one, so they are at their peak condition for the big day. We work very hard to give you each type of flower at its best – perfectly blooming, not tightly budded or overblown. Sometimes, depending on the weather and the flower type, they have to be put in a temperature-controlled environment to help them to either speed up or slow down the blooming process.

The Big Day

The day before the wedding the team will get to work, creating the individual elements ready for installation on the day. Everything is checked, vases and candles are counted, buttonholes named, ribbons packed and bouquets watered.

The wedding day starts early at the venue(s) with a team of florists on site, including the lead floral designer who has been working with the couple from the first consultation. Installations and larger arrangements are made and finished in situ, this often involves some form of construction, and several of us are likely to be found teetering at the top of very tall ladders as we work. We make sure every last tendril and petal is positioned perfectly, then it’s time for the lead florist to hand deliver the bridal bouquet to the bride, to share in some of the excitement and anticipation and to bring good wishes and heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the whole Mad Lilies team.

The video below shows the love that goes into each of our weddings, and the fun we have during setup, too! We’d love to talk to you about your wedding, so why not get in touch for a chat?

The Mad Lilies team are experienced wedding and event florists, and we’ve been recognised for our work by some of the most prestigious awards in the industry – winning Wedding Florist of the Year for London and the South East in 2017.

So, we promise that you’re in safe hands. We’ll work closely with you to design a unique set of flowers that suits your wedding to a tee and will guide you through every step of the process. We’re always on hand to answer your questions, share in your excitement and keep overwhelm at bay.
